INFORMATION:
The
name of the village stems from the Saxon Bourne meaning
stream. The prefix Ald is
thought to derive from a Saxon chief called Alder who settled
in the area. The village was once home to members
of America's 101st Airborne Division the Screaming Eagles and
its 506 Parachute Regiment where one of its companies was dubbed
'Easy Company'. The exploits of the soldiers, who stayed in the
village
from
Sept.
1943
until March 1944, were dramatized in the film
Band of Brothers.
