If you are coming from the ferry port cross over the lock gate bridge (very tight fit for a medium to large car) and drive out to the R634 bunker with the dome on the top. Then back to the light house where a 5cm KwK Pak was situated(I have not visited this yet), then take the Chemin De La Pointe du Sage. On the right is a large Tobruk and then a thatched house on the left a small Tobruk and on to the sea front and the R667 set into the bank.

Battle damage. There was quite a bit of two and fro, the Commandos turned up, found the defence was a bit more than they had imagines. So they turned right and carried on with their second target, Wn13 Pont sur le Canal, better known as Pegasus Bridge. That left the beach party that landed later and some Churchill Petard & flail tanks that came along and gradually took the position.

The inner harbour just after the lock.
The port was to be taken by the Commandos on D-Day, they started to attack and started to get bogged down in a lot of street fighting. They disengaged and continued on to Benouville and the bridge. It took the Beach Defence group and some Churchill & Sherman AVRE's to clear the area the next day.

French Dreadnought Courbet
Named after Admiral Amédée Courbet she was sailed to England and taken over by the Free French forces and just after D-Day was either sailed or towed across the channel and sunk in shallow water off Ouistreham as a part of the Mulberry harbour on Sword Beach. The Germans expended a lot of energy on trying to sink her, the guns of Mont Canisy and Houlgate, also a mini submarine attack.

Two garages and an extension is modern. I am not sure if these are original and air photos do not show them up clearly and this area was completely re modelled when a marina was built.

There were probably many of these bollards both sides of the canal to tie up ships. First a cannon was set with a canon ball set in its open barrel and then made into a sand mould. The barrel removed and old melted down iron poured into the mould. And a solid cast iron bollard is made.

Vf/GrW 80mm mortar Tobruk
A large Tobruk so an 8.14cm mortar could be used in safety inside it with 360deg it could cover a very large area. Certain areas would be pre marked on maps, plans and also sometimes painted on the rim of the Tobruk. Then if one of his platoon needed help, he could just call him on a field telephone and ask for support . If boats came in they could call White B and the mortars could fire on that square, if the infantry had reached the beach, then Black 2 could be called down.
