On our trip to France in November 2012 we crossed the Gironde river at Royan and as the ferry docked at Verdon we noticed British and French flags flying and several uniformed soldiers.

This was to commemorate the twelve men of the Royal Marines Boom Patrol Detachment who on the 7th/12th November 1942 canoed down the Gironde river to blow up shipping in Bordeaux.
