As you walk up the hill the track takes you around the back of the site to the control bunker. This was semi sunk into the ground on one level with a reinforced concrete roof, allowing some protection from a near miss. Early in the war these sites were hastily made from earth works & sand bags ad were manned only by men. As the war progressed women were drafted in to allow more men to go off and fight. They were NOT allowed to fire the guns though.
