INFORMATION:

More a pot plant than an emergency escape hatch.
There was an iron ladder to climb out of the stanton shelter if the other entrance was blocked and a man hole cover hinged on one side that could be opened easily from inside.

Charlton Horethorne may have been bombed several times during the war, so these shelters were needed.
