INFORMATION:
The Cathedral was built with the finest brand new materials that
the Bishops could buy, borrow or steel. Some stone came from Caen
in France, some from the Perbeck Hills in Dorset and most came from
the quarry's at Chilmark to the west of Salisbury.
Now
when it came to the wall, it would have been too expensive to buy
all new stone, so the old Cathedral at Sarum was recycled and as
you can see many early Norman pieces of masonry.
