History: February 1944 the 370th Fighter Group arrived with P-38 Lightning's and the 71st Fighter Wing followed. 401st 402nd and 485th fighter Squadron's used all the hangar accommodation and five Blister hangars as well. They became operational on the 1st May 1944 ready for D-day.
