INFORMATION:

History: following an uncertain time after the end of WW2 the site was selected as the shore base for new all-weather Sea-Venom jet fighters. The runway was lengthened westwards to 7500ft in 1952-3 for this aicraft. In November 1956 the runways and hardstandings were strengthened for the heavier Sea-Vixen aircraft which was about to enter service. The station reopend in January 1958. The strengthening was repeated in 1967 for the introduction of the Phantom.
