INFORMATION:
Piddlehinton
camp I believe was here before WW2. It was a training camp for the
Dorset Regiment.
Several
units passed through as the war progressed until D-day it was then
used by US forces as camp D6 a holding and transit camp for departing
soldiers for Omaha & Utah Beach.
It finished up as a National Service camp to train all though's
unlucky 18 year olds in the 1950's and 60's.
