INFORMATION:

RAF/RNAS Gosport, Hampshire situated to the west of Portsmouth. During the 1850s a string of forts were built at Gosport to protect the western approaches to Portsmouth Naval Dockyard. Two Forts Rowner & Gomer were in the middle f the line. In a field outside Fort Gomer in 1909 two Naval Lieutenant's attempted to fly a powered aircraft from a ramp. 1910 and Portsmouth then Hampshire Aero Club was formed here.
