RAF Weston Zoyland
was opened in 1926 and was used as a summer camps to allow pilots and crews to practice firing on air and sea targets off the North Somerset coast. Then as war broke out it was also used as an Army Co-operation station where Westland Lysander, Miles Master, Mustang and Supermarine Spitfire all flew. The airfield was gradually expanded with many Bessoneau temporary tented hangars and bell tent accommodation.
When war came all the old pre war structures were removed and a new 'A'
Class bomber station was built with large hangars, 33 loop dispersals and two large dispersed accommodation sites either side of the airfield. Later in 1952 it was re opened due to the rise in the cold war when Gloster Meteor trainers arrived and later Vampire and Canberra‘s came. The Canberra squadrons would arrive and work up ready to be posted abroad.

With the start of hostilities the airfield was up graded with a perimeter track and many new buildings.
1942 and it was decided to upgrade again to a full 'A' class bomber airfield in line with many in Britain.
