Building started in 1941 and the RAF took it over in 1942 as a grass airfield. .

Closed and turned into an 'A' Class bomber airfield. 3 x Runways.

No. 421 Repair & Salvage Unit. There were 13 Repair & Salvage units assigned to the 2nd Tactical Air Force. Each unit had a specific type or types of aircraft it handled. I believe they recovered everything possible up to a point where it was deemed of little or no value.
