Batterie Todt started life as the "Siegfried" batterie in August 1940. 4 x 38cm S.K.C/34 with a range of 55 km in LP (34 miles) and 42 km as standard (26 miles). Built by the Todt Organization with the 3.Komp./Marine-Pionier-Bataillon 316. The battery was originally designed open emplacements with ships turrets protecting the guns. In 1941 they were all casemated. A total of 12,000m3 of concrete plus steel reinforcement was used. 1942 on the 11th January the battery was at last finished. General Engineer Fritz Todt was killed in a plane crash on the 8th of February 1942 and in his honour the M.K.B. Siegfried is renamed M.K.B Todt. On the 10th the batterie was also given the number StP. 213. There were 4 officers, 49 non-commissioned officers and 337 sailors placed under the command of of Kapitànleutnant MA Klauss Momber. There was a massive belt of barbed wire, supplemented by thousands of mines, a ring of Tobruk machine guns and two 5cm KwK guns.
