The Typhonium, Egyptian style villa built in Wissant (1891) a very prominent house sat on a small hill overlooking the English Channel and converted easily to an early fire control post for railway guns in the area.
Stab E.Art.Abt.702. E = Eisenbahn, railway guns. There were many railway guns that were moved down out of Germany to cover the attack on England in Operation Seelöw in 1940. This obviously did not happen but the guns could control the channel and hit the Dover area. This post possibly controlled any of the inland Eisenbahn batteries. Also many French guns railway guns were added as the war went on.
I was given this picture but I think it originated in Alain Chazette Atlantikwall book. So I will only use the picture as a small image.

A lovely villa. The whole area was covered in bunkers and trench systems and a minefield ran around the south and west side. The house would have made a very nice HQ for officers billets.

Railway guns were very vulnerable to bombing, so they could either be kept in a railway tunnel, a tunnel especially bade for them or a concrete protective bunker.
Dombunker.
Most guns were parked on a turntable.

The next few photos were kindly sent to me from Leo of bunkers that are around the house and grounds..
The entrance to a bunker.
Several Eisenpfahel barbed wire posts. Dig a small hole. Place in the Eisenpfahel. Refill the hole with earth and stamp it down and you have a very good barbed wire post. Turn it upside down, hit it into the ground and you have a flat surface to place a light on to help navigate at night.

This is a photo reconnaissance photo showing what they have found, a two gun batterie of railway guns. I cannot find any information of this batterie at all. There seems to be no markings on the German maps of the area.
