As far as we could see there were four barrack huts, made in concrete walls with a wooden roof. Large windows and not a protected building. It may and did hold back a bullet of .303 or American 30cal but a cannon shell or above I am sure would go right through.

The angled top or neck is designed with a round hole and a venturi so that air passing through the round hole creates an air current to draw cool air through the Kablebrunnen. Very clever idea.

We believe these were where three shell cases hung and if hit by a steel bar. This would be either an 'Alarm' one sound or 'Food' another sound and I am trying to think of a third. Maybe 'General Call'.
The different sizes will make different sounds.
